Biomass Gasifiers

A biomass gasifier is device that converts biomass (wood blocks, wood chips, rice husk, saw dust, and other such agricultural residues) into a combustible gas called “producer gas”. The producer gas has a lower calorific value than CNG/LPG, but still can be used in oven/furnaces where the temperature requirement is less than 900°C.

The gas generated from the gasifier is called “producer gas”. The main combustible components of the producer gas are Carbon mono oxide (20-25% v/v), Hydrogen (8-10% v/v), methane (2-4% v/v) and small quantities of other higher gaseous hydrocarbons besides other non-combustibles like Carbon-di- Oxide (8-10% v/v) and nitrogen (50-55% v/v). The typical calorific value of this gas is 1200 kcal/m3, which much less than LPG or CNG.

Typically flame temperatures of over 1000°C can be achieved by this gas.

  • The Green Guideline entails that our design strife for:
  • Use & consumption of minimal amounts of water
  • Generation of minimal (preferably zero) effluents
  • Minimal parasitic power load
  • Maximum Carbon conversion
  • Maximum System efficiency

Indirect gas cooling systems :
Our systems DO NOT water scrubbers for cooling and cleaning the gas. The raw gas from the gasifier reactor is indirectly cooled using specially designed heat exchangers to almost ambient temperatures. Further cooling is achieved in finned tube heat exchanger after the gas is filtered of all dust.

Dry dust collection systems:
The dust is filtered from the gas in dry form using special anti-static bag filters.

Minimal Tar generation:
The present trend in the country is to manage the tar generated by the gasifier, rather than minimize it. Our systems have generated no or miniscule amounts of tar, as otherwise, our indirect heat exchangers and bag filters would not work.Tar generation in gasification can be attributed 3 main factors viz., high moisture in fuel, improper fuel size and reactor design. We have, in our manufacturing range, products that can eliminate the first two causes the third factor has been eliminated by designing reactors that are specific to the nature of the biomass. Automation of gasifier operations, viz., grate movement, filter cleaning etc is an integral part of our gasifiers.
Our Stratified force feed gasifiers are the first microprocessor controlled gasifiers in the country, where all essential actions are automated by a single microprocessor. Automation of basic operations like fuel feeding, ash handling, though optional, are also available.

Compact Foot Print:
Our gasification systems are designed for minimal space usage. Typically a 50 k W . Closed top system would require only 2.5 m x 6 m floor space .Our entrained gasifiers are even more compact. A 500 kWe entrained gasifier would occupy an area measuring only 5m x 10 m.


Saving in fuel cost:
Typically 50% of the spending towards fuel usage can be saved.

Cost Stability:
Gasifiers operate on wood blocks/ wood chips, which has a relatively stable price. So the vagaries (sudden spurts0 of oil prices does not affect the cost of production.

Environment friendly:
Biomass is carbon neutral, especially when used in gasifiers. So the greenhouse gas emissions are considered zero from biomass gasifier fired ovens/furnaces.

Work area clean/hygenic
The producer gas generated from the gasifier can be piped to reasonable distances (up to 400 ft). Hence, the gasifier can be located in an area that will not affect the actual work area. Therefore, effectively, there will be no difference in the work area. In some cases, the work areas are cleaner as there no oil spillage possible around the burner area.

Fuel Flexibility
Infinite gasifiers can accommodate a wide range of wood fuels including wood Chips , Wood Blocks, Biomass Briquettes, & other biomass from powdered to 5-inch minus sizes
